A Lamp under a Bushel Basket

It is foolish to put a lamp under a bushel basket. The oxygen in the air is necessary for the lamp to burn and emit light. If there is no air flow into the basket, the oxygen will burn the oil to carbon dioxide until the latter replaces most of the oxygen; the flame grows dimmer and then quickly goes out. So it is with a Christian if he loses the desire to live a godly life and to witness to Christ.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house.”—Matthew 5:14,15 ASV
