Gathering Manna
|
When the Israelites first received their heavenly manna, it
was wonderfully appreciated. “The taste of it was like wafers made with honey”
(Exodus16:31). So is the wonderful heavenly sustenance to the newly consecrated
saint, with all its lovely hopes for divine glory. But can we tire of it in
time? The Israelites did tire of their manna. “Now our soul is dried away: there
is nothing at all beside this manna, before our eyes” (Numbers 11:6). They no
longer remembered their first impression, the taste of honey wafers. Now, “the
taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil” (verse 8). ~ Let us not tire, as
they, of the wonderful sustaining nourishment of the holy Spirit in our
spiritual lives. Let us not merely see it, dutifully, as the “taste of oil,” the
holy Spirit. Let us ever keep in mind the sweet, uplifting, wonderful,
unsurpassed, privilege of joint-suffering now, and joint-heirship in glory
later. |
